This year has been different to most – I don’t need to tell you that. We are taking stock and taking notes of how we are affecting the planet and the huge impact that can have on our everyday lives.
Earth Overshoot Day is not a new concept, you will likely have heard about it before. Earth Overshoot Day ‘marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year.’
Due to COVID19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown measures that were put in the place across the globe, we have seen a decrease in both our carbon and forest product footprints – this has caused humanity’s ecological footprint to reduce – but this does not meant that we are now masters of sustainability. We need to take these changes and continue to learn and reduce our impact on the planet. Disaster has made us face up to and embrace change but now we need to take back control of our behaviour and our exploitation of the planet – and put in place significant, long-term measures to reduce it.
I recommend visiting and with thanks to https://www.overshootday.org/ for sharing information and opportunities for change surrounding our use of global resources. The title image and information/quotes in this blog were found on their site.
